Attachment Theory

Understanding Attachment Theory allows me to provide a quality of care that is sensitive to the process of healing the relationship clients have with themselves through the experience of relationships they can have in therapy.

Attachment Theory is about recognising the human need for a healthy emotional connection to their caregiver in order to foster the healthy development of their own emotions. Healthy development of attachment occurs when a child experiences a relatively consistent trust in their caregiver’s response to meeting their needs when they are signaled for. Repeated failure to alleviate the stress of a child results in ingrained belief systems regarding the hospitableness of the world, resulting in patterns of anxious and/or avoidant behaviour.
