Addiction

Nobody lives a ‘perfect’ life. I believe becoming bound to cycles of behaviour that steer you off your best path is a symptom of not having certain needs met in important areas of your life. Addiction is a relationship to a certain behaviour that ends up taking more from your life than it initially seems to give.

Addiction is primarily a coping mechanism/self-medication strategy for dealing with deeper emotional discomfort and not a cause for shame.

Common underlying emotions of addiction include:

Anxiety, Depression, Anger and Complex Grief

Uncomfortable emotions are a necessary part of everyone’s life. However, if you recognise re-occurring emotional discomfort triggered by everyday circumstances, then it is worth pursuing therapy/resources to help you discover effective solutions.
